Smart Communities is a community-based digital inclusion project which supports local people to improve their digital skills, by providing IT equipment, internet access and flexible digital training and support.
Smart Communities supports digital learning in local venues, providing a friendly, comfortable space for people to come along and get support to improve their digital skills.
Our participants have taken part in a variety of activities, from Digital Drop-ins and Job Clubs, to Tablet workshops and supervised Digital Play for children. Some people have brought along their own device to get advice and support to use it, and others have used Smart Communities’ laptops to get online.
We pride ourselves on providing a bespoke service to individuals, supporting them to learn what is most useful and relevant to them. As well as offering flexible group sessions, such as our Digital Drop-ins, we also provide one-to-one support for those who require or prefer it.
The youngest person the project has worked with is four years old, and the oldest to date is 95, which demonstrates how relevant the digital world is to people of all ages and backgrounds.
